Boulder City Eagles split games, other teams still rank high
January 22, 2013Hosts Boulder City Eagles basketball teams split games with Desert Pines Jan. 18, in a light week of high school sports action.
The Eagles won the girls game 77-63, thanks to a strong first half. Boulder City held a 22-11 lead after the first quarter and never let it get uncomfortably close again.
Junior center Whitney Barlow led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points. Alyssa Ybarra and Mallory Bird added 14 points each. Sophomore playmaker Katlyn Daly accounted for 12 points in the win.
The Eagles boast a 13-3 record overall and are undefeated in the IA Southern – Sunrise League, one game ahead of Moapa Valley.
Desert Pines won the boys' game 71-51 on the strength of a dominating third quarter.
Boulder City's Caleb Bailey accounted for the majority of his teams points, netting a game high 28.
The Jaguars' Re'meake Keith scored a team high 14 points, one better than teammate Julian Jacobs in the victory.
Boulder City is 11-7 overall and hold a IA Southern-Sunrise League record of 3-3, four spots back of leaders Desert Pines.
Foothill remains in first place in the boys' Southeast League. Basic is in third place, just ahead of Coronado and Liberty.
Green Valley sits in fourth place in the Northeast League, which is topped by the Valley Vikings.
The Green Valley girls are currently in second place behind Canyon Springs. The Gators have a 16-6 overall record.
Liberty leads the Southeast League with an 18-6 overall mark but an undefeated league record. Coronado is second at 14-6, Foothill third at 14-7 and Basic fourth with a 11-7 overall record.
