Metro officer and family dead in apparent murder suicide
January 22, 2013An off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan police officer appears to have killed his wife and young son before killing himself in an apparent murder-suicide on Monday morning in their Boulder City home.
The 52-year-old officer, whose name has not yet been released, called Boulder City 911 from a house on Esther Drive at about 8:20 a.m. Monday saying he had just killed his 46-year-old wife and son. He then said he was going to set his house on fire and harm any officer that came to the home.
Boulder City police officers arrived at the home minutes after the 911 call and encountered a man at the doorway holding what appeared to be a handgun.
The man refused to follow officers' commands and went back into the house. It is likely he then killed himself.
Boulder City Police called for SWAT assistance from Henderson and North Las Vegas Police. SWAT officers entered the home and found the man, woman and child dead. An autopsy by the Clark County Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
The house was on fire and Boulder City and Henderson firefighters doused the blaze.
Boulder City Police requested Henderson Police investigate the incident as Henderson Police have the resources to investigate such an incident.
The names of the officer, woman and child will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office after their families have been notified.
